Happy Full Moon!

Of course Whimsical Moon should have a post on the full moon! It's always amazes me when we are teaching preschool how wound up the children are on the full moon. We can forecast the full moon by them!

"The Moon is a white strange world, great, white, soft-seeming globe in the night sky, and what she actually communicates to me across space I shall never fully know. But the Moon that pulls the tides, and the Moon that controls the menstrual periods of women, and the Moon that touches the lunatics, she is not the mere dead lump of the astronomist.... When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness.." -D.H. Lawrence

Okay... my gyno. doctor told me about the full moon and the effects on woman. I thought he was loopy! That moon needs to stop messing around with me!!!

Full Sturgeon Moon - August

The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon

I just love Native names for the moon!

They dined on mince and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon, The moon, The moon, They danced by the light of the moon. -Edward Lear, "The Owl and the Pussycat"

I want to dance by the light of the moon with a runcible spoon.

As long as the moon shall rise

As long as the river shall flow

As long as the sun shall shine

As long as the grass shall grow

-Native American prayer

What a great post Anet! And we could always tell when a full moon was coming by the behavior of the kiddo's at school...recess was always a tell-tell sign.

Your moon photo's are beautiful...along with the stories and names of the moon.

Something funny...I've never known an Aquarian or Picean who doesn't have a tough time sleeping when the moon is full...that old moon, what a trickster!

Hi Wendy,
It's so good to meet you!
We really aren't consider Pagans. We are a Native American Family. We do love many of the Pagan celebrations and how the are more connected with the earth.

We try to embrace whatever feels right to us. We love to celebrate the seasons and the earth. As it comes nature for my family being Native Americans. So many of the Pagan celebrations and traditions feels right to us.
At the same time we are always greatful to The Great Father for all the wonderful things he gives us.
Sometimes I'm just not sure what we are or do, I try not to worry too much about it:)

I do have a homeschooling blog; Purple Squirrel, but I have it on private setting. I'd be happy to add you to the blog readers so you can visit it. We're not doing to much right now but we'll be back to "school" soon :) Just let me know if you'd like to visit:)
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Anet,

I would love to read your homeschooling blog! You can email me through my profile. :)

Our school year starts up in September. But this weekend should be educational as we traipse around the Korean countryside, checking out Buddhist shrines and more!

Nice to meet you too!

I am hear to attest to the preschoolers and the moon! The other day Esteban was just acting CRAZY and I was pulling my hair trying to figure out why, then I read your blog. It all became clear to me, it was the full moon. I had totally forgotten about that! It was so true when he was in school, it didn't occur to me out of school! I loved the post, it was so romantic. And creative! I can't wait to show Jose!

I can't believe sweet, wonderful Esteban would make you feel like pulling your hair out! LOL!!!
I only wish I could have a class full of Estabans!
It sure is interesting how the moon effects things and people. I hear there are more babies born on the full moon and emergency rooms are busier than usual.

yes, Esteban has his moments! It is so weird how the moon does have so much of an effect. The kids, adults, babies. The menstrual cycling with the moon is so true! Whenever we are outside more, it happens. I first read about it in a Barbara Kingsolver book and didn't believe it. Hard to grasp but true! I just love pondering about those types of things! Thanks!
