A Bump in the road...

There's a bump in the road for our family... more like a hill really. My husband is getting laid off on Friday. He's a Union electrician. We've hung in this long and are thankful for that.

My mind is reeling right now, knowing unemployment checks will barely make the house payment let alone pay all the other bills and feed us. I've already cancelled all the extras that we're used too. My husband is quitting the bowling team and we will tighten our belts as best we can. Shop at the discount food stores...blech. Use the library for free entertainment.

I can't help thinking about winter (higher utility bills) and the Holidays fast approaching. Well that is just something I must not worry about now.

You know, we do live in the state with the highest unemployment rate... it really sucks here!

I just have to keep calm and upbeat for my kid's sake right now. I'll think of this as an adventure, a journey, part of life. What really p's me off is how hard I've always worked at paying bills on time and having good credit... I can see that all going down the toilet fast.

Oh well, we'll just keep on keeping on. Hopefully the internet will stay turned on... if I disappear you'll know why:)

I am really sorry to hear this Anet... this economic crash is not sparing anyone.. no matter what governments say.. we can all see what the world has turned into... I hardly know a soul up here that is not affected either...

But... Hang on!!! .. if anybody has the ability to make it work out... You do!!! You have so many talents...

And please don't disappear!!!...

this just... sucks. :( sounds like you are going into it clear headed though, and that counts for a lot. i had to shop at a "discount food store" today. no donuts. no fresh baked french bread. but, oh well...

i've vowed to keep my internet on no matter what. it keeps me sane.

best wishes as you head into this challenging time.

Welcome to the Marvin world!(the unemployment system name) which I am intimate with! I haven't worked really all summer, except on the side and let me tell you, lots of things get done around the house that you have put off! :) that is an upside! But that really sucks and I feel really bad for you... Things always happen for a reason though, which helps me when things get rough - our thoughts are with you!

I am so sorry this happened to you folks. Please keep your internet connection; the only little job I finally got (just 6-10 hours a week) was all online applying, online "interview" and online tests...

If you count the people who work part-time but need fulltime, the people whose unemployment benefits expired, and those who did not qualify for unemployment, the actual total of out-of-work in the U.S. is 31 million. Meaning, in terms of population, everyone in Az, NM, Tx, Ark, La, Miss, and Ala...all out of work...the equivalent of EVERYONE (man, woman, and child, and maybe even all the Chihuahuas) in California being out of work...IT'S SCARY!!!

Hang in there!

That blows.

Bear and I have both been laid off (he in July and me at the end of August). Trying to find something that will come close to matching salaries is a bit of a joke.

You are doing all the right things. It's stressful and frustrating, and frightening. The thing I try to remember is that it has to pass. (I insist.)

Thinking of ya'll.

Oh my gosh, what crappy timing. You and your family are so in my thoughts right now. I hope things will work out and that you don't have to lose anything!

That really sucks Anet! I am so sorry to hear it. We are dealing with the same thing here. We will get through it is my motto right now.

You all are so great!
I know I'm not alone in this. Really, I keep thinking of how lucky we are to have hung on this long.

All the emotions that come along with this is overwhelming that's for sure!!!
Sounds like many of you understand this and are going through the same things. Gosh, I'm sorry to hear all of this.
I thought from listening to the media... (what was I thinking?) that things were getting better.

In the past year we've used up our savings account just to make ends meet. So that's a little concerning.
My job doesn't bring in much income, I only work about 12 hours a week.
Brad, my husband is in his late 40's and is thinking of switching careers. Ummm.. yeah.

I will remember all of your advice;
This too will pass,
Things happen for a reason
and we WILL get through this. Keeping in mind this is just a bump in the road...not a hill, not a HILL!

Penniwig, that is amazing amount of people!! I will remember we're not alone, that's for sure!

Thanks everyone:)

Oh no!

They say the employment part is the last to catch up, so all that news about upswing - it takes time for the jobs.

You know that utility companies are very flexible these days and will work with you. Please call EVERYONE on your bill paying list and work something out.

Also, please look at Capitalgainesmedia.com - keep an eye on that site - better yet subscribe. I have been amazed at the innovative things they post on there.

I hope your etsy stuff will help!

You have my email address - don't hesitate to contact me about anything!

So sorry to hear about this - I hate layoffs! I do hope it's only temporary, and your husband is called back soon, or finds something new.

Thinking good thoughts!
